PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATIONS

LET’S COLLABORATE TOGETHER TO MAXIMIZE YOUR OUTPUT

Whether your parts are forming incorrectly, making unclean cuts, or wearing down too fast, poor-performing parts will cost your bottom line. Let us help you find the solution for maximizing your output. It may be your grade. It may be the tool geometry or coating. We put in the work to find the obstacle and solve it.

WE’RE EXPERTS IN CARBIDE GRADES

Not all grades of tungsten carbides (WC) are equal. There are varying grades of carbide and depending on the binder, each has its own specific usage. Binders, such as cobalt (Co), are used in conjunction with WC to maximize the tool life for your application. The ratio of tungsten to binder determines the balance of hardness (wear resistance) and toughness (impact resistance).

Carbides with lower percentages of binder are extremely hard and long lasting. However, they do not tolerate impact and chip more easily. This makes them useful for plug and ring gages, wear parts, and many other applications where impact resistance is not critical.

On the other end of the scale, carbides with the highest percentage of binder are formulated for extremely high impact. These tools can be used for swaging dies, heavy draw dies and punch applications.

In the mid-range, blends of tungsten carbide and cobalt are available to give your tools the best of both worlds. Achieving just the right mix to give your tools the best possible wear and impact resistance.
